Nailsea Cranberry and White Venetian Thread Pedestal Bowl, Late 19th Century

Antique Nailsea Venetian Thread Cranberry & White Ruffled Edge Centerpiece Pedestal Bowl – c. Late 19th Century

A luminous and rare example of Victorian glass artistry, this antique Nailsea centerpiece pedestal bowl showcases the signature looped and trailed Venetian thread decoration in rich cranberry and white that made Nailsea glass legendary among collectors. The generously proportioned bowl features a beautifully ruffled edge — each undulation hand-formed with the fluid confidence of an experienced glassworker — rising above a pedestal foot that gives the piece its commanding centerpiece presence.

This piece is a product of the Nailsea Crown and Bottle Glassworks, founded in 1788 near Bristol, England — one of the most celebrated regional glasshouses of the era, known for its distinctive folk glass traditions and vibrant color work. The cranberry and white Venetian thread decoration is among the most sought-after of all Nailsea colorways, its warm ruby tones and crisp white looping creating a visual rhythm that catches light from every angle.
