Empoli, near Florence in Tuscany, has a long glassmaking tradition. From the 1950s through the 1970s, its glasshouses became especially associated with colorful decorative glass for Italian and international interiors. The name Opalina Fiorentina, meaning Florentine opaline, is documented on a range associated with Stelvia, an Empoli-area producer established in the 1950s.
